The article chronicles a few different theaters, including The Playhouse LV, through their concerns on what the shutdown means and the potential financial challenges that await them as the city-wide quarantine drags on. Their chief concern is how they will pay rent in their newly opened building.

The story uses the local LA scene for examples but examines the issue from a national perspective as well. The story reports survey data collected from McKinsey & Co. and SMU DataArts giving tangible statistics on the hardships local theaters are facing across the country. The chief issues are lower audience numbers, rising rent, inflation and the exhaustion of government relief grants.
