Story 1: Poor Richard's Players - The Playhouse LV

Hidden amongst the glitz and glamour of Las Vegas, heart-felt stories play out in small community playhouses around the city. While major productions along the strip have put the hardships of the Covid-19 pandemic in the rearview mirror, small community theaters find it difficult to recover. Poor Richard's Players, who call the theatre home, was the first company to welcome back the public after the pandemic-induced shutdowns. However, a "handshake agreement" with city officials on acceptable building code standards has seemingly been forgotten, and the playhouse shuttered its doors once again until repairs can be made. With the launch of a new capital fundraising campaign, Benjamin Loewy and his staff at the Playhouse Las Vegas look to the community they spent years entertaining for help. If they cannot succeed in the coming months, they will lose their space for good and leave a lasting void on the Vegas local arts scene.

Story 2: Vanessa Booth - UNLV's Scarlet & Gray

Independent college newspapers face extinction. UNLV’s Scarlet and Gray is no exception. Editor-in-chief Vanessa Booth looks to change that. In addition to normal fiscal obligations, the publication faces new financial challenges now that the Review Journal recently decided to cease their annual donation and complimentary use of their printing press. After finding success lobbying to increase funds for her high school and other public non-technical schools, Booth sets her eyes on safeguarding the campus paper, at least for the 2022/23 school year. She proposes a new fee that will add to student’s tuition costs but will increase revenue to heights previously unseen.
